THE RACE FOR 8TH IN THE WEST

WHO WINS THE SPURS VS. GRIZZLIES?

WRITTEN BY MICHAEL BARON

The San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies meet Sunday in NBA action. The San Antonio Spurs look for another win after beating the Sacramento Kings in their return game. The San Antonio Spurs are averaging 113.4 points on 47.1 percent shooting and allowing 115 points on 47 percent shooting. DeMar DeRozan is averaging 22.2 points and 5.6 rebounds while Patty Mills is averaging 11.7 points and 1.8 assists. Bryn Forbes is the third double-digit scorer and Dejounte Murray is grabbing 5.7 rebounds. The San Antonio Spurs are shooting 37.2 percent from beyond the arc and 80.9 percent from the free throw line. The San Antonio Spurs are allowing 37.5 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 44.4 rebounds per game.

The Memphis Grizzlies look for a bounce back showing after losing to the Portland Trail Blazers in overtime. The Memphis Grizzlies are averaging 113 points on 47 percent shooting and allowing 114.1 points on 45.1 percent shooting. Ja Morant is averaging 17.7 points and seven assists while Jaren Jackson Jr. is averaging 17.2 points and 4.7 rebounds. Dillon Brooks is the third double-digit scorer and Jonas Valanciunas is grabbing 11.1 rebounds. The Memphis Grizzlies are shooting 35.1 percent from beyond the arc and 76.1 percent from the free throw line. The Memphis Grizzlies are allowing 36.4 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 46.6 rebounds per game.

WHO WINS?

The San Antonio Spurs looked great in their opening bubble game, as they shot 53.3 percent from the field and got terrific play from DeRozan and White. The Spurs need all the wins they can get if they’re going to keep their playoff streak alive and they’re off to a solid start. The Memphis Grizzlies lost a heartbreaker in overtime and I question how a young team is going to bounce back after a tough loss under these weird circumstances.
